If you're seeing: "World of Warships does not seem to be installed in that folder. You said "loader can't locate steam version's client", assuming you mean the modpack can't locate the steam client, but you can still install to the folder you selected. If it's simply saying that no client was found, you can still install, and things will end up in the proper locations anyways, as long as you made sure to select the correct installation folder.
